According to the World Bank, one in five Nepalis aged 15–24 are unemployed, while the country’s GDP per capita remains just $1,447 in a nation of 30 million. Highlighting the frustrations of the youth, Karki said the protesters are demanding an end to corruption, good governance, and economic equality.
On Sunday, she observed a minute’s silence for those killed in the unrest before beginning meetings at Singha Durbar, the central government complex where several buildings were set ablaze during Tuesday’s mass demonstrations.
