A person of interest was taken into custody overnight following a deadly shooting at Brown University, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon inside the engineering building of the Ivy League institution in Providence, Rhode Island, as students were taking final exams. Two people were killed, and nine others were injured in the attack.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said on Sunday that seven hospitalized victims are in stable condition, while one remains in critical condition. Another individual with minor injuries has since been released from the hospital. Later in the day, Smiley noted that the victims’ conditions had not changed and confirmed he had spoken with four of those affected.

“This is an incredibly distressing and emotional moment for the Brown and Providence communities,” Smiley said.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on social media that authorities have established a command center and launched a digital media intake portal to collect photos and videos from the public related to the incident.
